Would a safe deter a burglar?
If a burglar came across a very large solid safe bolted to the floor and wall. Would he: attempt to break it, leave the house alone, continue looking elsewhere in the house or just trash the house out of spite!
Has anyone had experience of this?

would definitely deter. Time is of the essence and minutes spent cracking a safe is a waste of valuable time

a safe would draw his interest, everybody knows that people who spend alot of money on safes are also storing there most expensive valuables in it, a burgler would try to open it, but if he fails he could return a t a future date with extra tools needed to break in. a safe should be hidden.

most household burglars wouldnt knowingly break into a house to steal from a safe, most burglars break into a house with the intention of stealing portable goods, ie dvd, gold, money etc. therefore the safe wouldnt put them off, they just wouldnt bother with it.

A “very large solid safe bolted to the floor and wall” is a good deterrent to a burglar. They can’t afford to waste hours cracking a good safe, with no guarantee they will ever get in before getting caught in the act.
On the other hand, a small lightweight safe like they sell for under $100 in big box stores is a waste of money- the bad guys just carry them home and open it at their leisure.
